Justice Ja’neh impeachment bill suffers another setback at Liberian Senate

For the second time in a week, the controversial bill to impeach Associate Justice Kabina Ja’neh, has suffered setback at the level of the Liberian Senate.

Majority members of the Senate during their Tuesday sitting maintained that the procedures for impeachment drawn up by the House of Representatives are in violation of Article 43 of the Liberian constitution.

Article 43 of the constitution gives both houses of the Legislature the duty to prescribe the procedure for impeachment proceedings.

According to the majority members of the Senate, the Lower house ignored article 43 and unilaterally set up the procedures.

The controversial bill of impeachment is yet to be presented to the Liberian Senator.

The debate started when the Senate leadership presented a briefing on the notice of impeachment of Justice Ja’neh presented to the Senate by the House of Representatives.
