Pres. Weah requests Legislature to set By-Election for July 31st

President George Weah has written the national Legislature requesting that august body to pass a resolution that would set July 31, 2018, as the date for holding senatorial by-elections in Bong and Montserrado Counties.

The by-elections are as the results of the election of than Senators George Weah and Jewel Howard Taylor as President and vice President of Liberia respectively.

President Weah in his communication informed members of both Houses that the National Elections Commission (NEC) has informed the Executive branch of government that it is prepared to hold the by-elections no later than July 31, 2018.

The Liberian leader letter requested that a resolution be signed by the lawmakers confirming the holding of Senatorial by-election in Bong and Mountserrado Counties at the end of July.

It can be recalled that on May 23, NEC Chairman Jerome Korkoyah informed a news conference in Monrovia that the Commission has received additional funding from the government of Liberia for the holding of the two by-elections; summing the total funding provided by Government to US$1,509,938.

Meanwhile, the president’s communication has been submitted to the respective committees on Elections and Inauguration and State Enterprises at both houses.
