Government to shut down 400 illegal water companies

Commerce and Industry Minister, Wilson Tarpeh, has ordered the closure of all illegal water companies operating in the Country.

A survey conducted by the Ministry revealed that there are over five hundred water companies across the country, but about 400 of those businesses are fraudulently operating.

Minister Tarpeh told inspectors to ensure that water companies that have refused to register be compelled to regularize their status or shut down to safeguard those that are registered.

The Minister of Commerce and Industry made the discourse on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the start of a nationwide inspection of businesses across the country.

He asserted that the Ministry has taken some measure to move Liberian-owned businesses into the mainstream, particularly the Liberia Water Producers Association.

Minister Tarpeh said the exercise will ensure that Liberian-owned businesses take lead in the economic.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry says the nationwide inspection is intended to ensure that the quality of goods and services on the Liberian market meet minimum standard and are affordable.
