Youth and Sports Minister-designate, Zogar Wilson, says he is saddened by the poor living conditions of former national team players.
Mr. Wilson, himself a former national team player, is among recent appointments made by President Weah.
Wilson said if confirmed by the Senate, he will establish a trust fund to take care of former national team players.
Speaking to journalists on Capitol Hill shortly after emerging from confirmation hearings, the former player said he will work with sporting federations, associations and other stakeholders to review the existing policies on sports.
The Sports Minister-designate further disclosed that will work in consultation with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to establish the ‘Sport Development Tax’ through the generation of revenue on cigarette and alcoholic beverages.
Mr. Wilson said youth empowerment and sports development in the country remain top priority on his agenda as minister of youth and sports.
