Inaugural ceremony moved to SKD Sports Complex

For the first time in living memory, Liberia will on 22nd January, hold a presidential inaugural ceremony at a sports stadium.

The Foreign Ministry has named the SKD Sports Complex as venue for the inauguration of Liberia’s 25th President, George M. Weah and Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor.

But Veteran politician and former Grand Kru Senator, Blamo Nelson, has argued that the presidential oath should be administered at the Capitol Building, the Providence Baptist Church or the Centennial Pavilion.

Mr. Nelson said a law was amended for inaugurations to be held at the Capitol Building.

Apparently, the inaugural ceremony was moved to SKD Sports Complex due to ongoing construction works taking place on the ground of the Capitol Building.

Distinguished personalities, including presidents, football icons, international business leaders, politicians and diplomats are expected to witness Monday’s historic ceremony.

No names of other presidents attending the ceremony have so far been released.

President Sirleaf, Liberia and Africa’s first female President, who have served a two year terms will peacefully transfer power to president-elect, George Weah.

This will be the first time in 73 years; power would be handed over peacefully from one democratically elected president to a democratically elected president.
