Visiting Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has said the West African Region will reject any election results that have the tendency to plunge Liberia into a round of chaos.
President Akufo-Addo said the Supreme Court ruling on the recent electoral dispute should be the basis for peaceful transfer of power.
Liberia has not had a peaceful transfer of political power in more than 70 years.
President Akufo-Addo said ECOWAS will do everything possible to ensure that the tenets of democracy are upheld in Liberia.
The Ghanaian Leader made the remarks on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, when he served as keynote speaker of the 98th commencement convocation of the University of Liberia.
“ECOWAS is not prepared to see Liberia sliding back to instability. Democracy is at the ballot and not the bullet as a preferred way of changing government.
ECOWAS made a huge investment in protecting peace in Liberia, we will do all we can to ensure that democracy is entrenched in Liberia,” President Akufo-Addo said.
The Ghanaian President also underscored the need for a deep look at the economic structure of African Countries with the aim to improve living conditions on the continent.
He further that the struggle for rapid economic development is far-fetched in Africa and as such there is a need to encourage democratic governance throughout the continent in achieving economic development.
President Akufo-Addo urged African leader to be proactive and innovative enough in addressing the critical needs of their citizens.
