LINSU Sets Up Interim Leadership

An official says Mr. Jerome Barnard, President of the State run University of Liberia (UL) Students Movement, ‘ALSU’, has been named acting president of the Liberia national student union or LINSU.

A press statement issued in Monrovia on Tuesday says the LINSU’s National Administrative Council also appointed others to conduct the affairs of the Union.

LINSU National Administrative Council comprises heads of chapters in the 15 counties and members of the Union‘s highest decision making body.

The National Administrative Council has meanwhile mandated the newly appointed officials to preside over LINSU’s activities and conduct elections within 45 days.

Acting President Jerome Barnard addressing a news conference called on government and student groups to refrain from doing business with any member of the immediate past leadership of the National Student Union.

The immediate past President of Liberia National Students Union (LINSU), Varney Jarseywas charged on November 19, 2016 by the women and children protection section of the Liberia National Police for statutory rape and he has since been reminded at the Monrovia Central Prison following court trail.

According to the Police Charge sheet, Jarsey, 30, was arrested and charged following a complaint levied against him by Woyonwon in which he alleged that that his daughter, age 15, explained to him that she was abused by the suspect.

Mr. Jersey was charged for statutory rape, a crime which contravene Section 14.70 (a) (I) of the 2005 rape law of Liberia.
