The Willis Knuckles Sports Stadium in Zubah Town on the outstretch of Monrovia will on August 24, play host to Liberia’s foremost decorated and most organized Old Timers club 47th anniversary celebrations.
Alpha Old Timers Sports Association has announced that it will hold an in-house tournament and a 50’s Above football competition to commemorate its 47th anniversary and the annual Fellowship with the Knuckles family.
Host of illustrious personalities are expected to take to the pitch on August 24th to showcase their tabellah skill in the daylong football festival, which is also aimed at promoting friendship and unity among Alpha members, as well as members of the Liberia Old Timers National Association (LONA).
Game One will witness the Blue Whales led by Liberia Football Association (LFA) President, Musa Bility against the Panthers, to be captained by Mustapha Raji, president of Liberia newly crowned football champion, LISCR FC.
Game Two equally so promises to be a tougher clash, when Alpha 50’s Above led by former Lone Star coach Kadallah Kromah, Defense Minister, Brownie Samuka, Oldman Soko Sackor and Samuel Stryker meets their counterparts from Independent Old Timers. The other old folks encounter has paired New Georgia against its closed door neighbors, Super BOSA of Bardnerville.
The day’s big match will see the Storm captained by Eugene Nagbe, Information Minister cum president of Liberia traditional club, Mighty Barrolle against Morpheus of football icon, George Weah, 1995 Africa, Europe and FIFA World Player of the Year.
Weah is also Senator of Montserrado County and political leader of Liberia’s biggest opposition party, the Coalition for Democratic Change, formerly Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
The tournaments to be played on a knockout basis, will pair the winner from Game One against Game Three winner in the 50’s & Above final, while the first game winner knocks horns with Game Four winner.
Come and watch stars like, onetime Lone Star and IE goal-puncher, Ezekiel Doe, former Lone Star and Mighty Barrolle shot-stopper, Pewee Bestman, alias ‘Magic Hand’ and former Liberia international, Jonah Sawiah in action for Weah’s Morpheus.
Minister Nagbe is expected to team-up in Storm with former Liberia international Oliver Makor, former Mighty Barrolle and Lone Star player, Waka Heron, Deputy Sports Minister Henry Yonton and Cole Bangalu.
Musa Bility’s Blue Whales will parade the likes of former Lone Star and Arsenal star, Christopher Wreh, Deputy Police Chief for Operation AB Kromah and Abraham ‘Goal King’ Sanor, while Raji’s Panthers is expected to showcase Liberia all time best midfielder, Kelvin Sebwe, ANC political leader Alexander Cummings, skillful Abel Sneh and the Promoters of Liberian Athletes(PROLA) President, Joseph Farkollie.
