The Government has sacked all District Education Officers or DEOs across Liberia.
Education Minister, George Werner said the DEOs are incompetent and do not have the requisite academic credentials.
Minister Werner made the disclosure on Tuesday, when he appeared before the Senate to explain why the Education Ministry has not assigned DEOs to the 15 Counties.
The Education Minister told the Senators it would be fruitless to assign DEOs that do not have the requisite qualification and experience.
Werner said the Ministry does not need DEOs for now and that those he referred to as M&E Officers will supervise the school System.
The Senate Plenary decision to invite Minister Werner was in response to Lofa County Senator, George Tengbeh’s communication to that august body, which accused the minister of running an incomplete educational system.
In his communication, Senator Tengbeh said he is disappointed in Education Minister over his failure to deploy District Education Officers (DEO) in rural Liberia, especially Lofa County.
