Education Minister George Werner says he knows nothing about how schools receiving subsidies from Government are selected.
Appearing before the Legislature’s budget hearing on Tuesday, Minister Werner said the selection process of schools for subsidy is highly political and beyond the reach of the Ministry of Education.
He averred that the Education Ministry is committed to the provision of subsidies to deserving schools, but clarified that the selection process does not fall within its preview.
Minister Werner however declined to give further details on who is responsible for the selection of schools receiving subsidies from the Government.
Meanwhile, District ‘11’ Representative in the Legislature, Gabriel Nyenkan, commenting on the Education Minister’s statement, observed that the Ministry is giving subsidies to schools not on the basis of the merit system.
