A health official is asking people across Liberia to report cases of maternal death.
Dr. Jallah Kerkula, director of the Family Health Division of the Ministry of Health said over one thousand maternal mortality and new born deaths have been recorded since 2013.
Dr. Kerkula named bleeding as one of the main causes of maternal mortality and new born deaths, while he said high blood pressure, unsafe abortion and infections are responsible for new born deaths.
Addressing what was considered a media engagement conference on Thursday, Jallah called on the general public to refer maternal and new born cases to the nearest health centers.
In brief remarks, World Health Organization’s Maternal Health Coordinator, Bentoe Tehungue, said the WHO is committed to strengthen the Liberian health system.
